Netflix

Of the major video streaming services, Netflix is the first to get its app on Windows 8.

Vimeo

At the time of this writing there isn’t an official YouTube app, but Vimeo is the next best thing. This app lets you upload and watch videos, browse channels, and stream videos to Xbox 360 with the Windows 8 PlayTo integration.

TBS for Windows

If you’re a fan of Conan Obrien, Seinfeld and other regularly syndicated shows on TBS, you’ll want to check this out. It gives you access to behind-the-scenes videos, trailers and up-to-date TBS programming schedules. You can stream it to your HDTV through your Xbox 360 with the PlayTo feature. It also allows you to save favorites to watch later.

Live TV

If you want to watch live streaming channels on Windows 8, the Live TV app does the job. It has a paid subscription element to view channels in HD, but standard definition is free.

Xbox Video

Xbox Video comes built in with Windows 8. Microsoft’s new video service lets you purchase TV episodes, TV packs, Movies and your own collection. If you have an Xbox 360, you can use the SmartGlass app and PlayTo feature to stream them to your HDTV.

If you want to multitask on the Windows 8 desktop while watching video apps, a good option is to snap them to the left or right of your screen.

These are a few of the best video apps currently available in the Microsoft Store, and more added every week. What is your favorite? Leave a comment and tell us about it. Comment Name * Email *
